Give blood

Well over a year ago, I promised a lovely lady that I would give blood. She had been in the hospital, many times, but on this occasion she required 9 pints of blood. Unfortunately she is not here for me to tell her that I finally did it for her, but I finally did.

Why so long? I had already looked at the national site:
http://www.blood.co.uk/
and easily found locations but none were quite convenient. Also to be honest, I was scared as I don't like even simple blood tests.

Why did I go? Someone else had an appointment, therefore it was easy to go with her, located nearby, I had finished work, kids were looked after. So no excuses. I showed up without an appointment and at first it looked a long wait but in the end it was very quick. By the time I had drunk my pint of water I was in the simple screening process and then within half an hour on the table. Nothing hurt, nice nurses and carers, well organised and efficient. I felt a bit tired after so just another reason to flop and watch TV. The blood has a life of about 4 weeks so I will try and make the next appointment I will now receive.

I also learned something new that they need platelets particularly for cancer patients and leukaemia sufferers. And that platelets only last for five days! They are also vital for transplant patients and patients who have suffered a major haemorrhage. To find out more information see www.blood.co.uk/platelets.

This Cancer Research UK page also tells you more about chemotherapy and blood cells.

Wool hats popular and new cotton denim version available

At last night's ladies pampering evening, we sold our last Kelly KC1, a great heavy weight wool baker boy hat.

One of the ladies at the event last night was allergic to wool. I'm pleased to say 4myhead.com has cotton options for almost all our styles, including the Kelly Baker Boys. We now have a great looking denim cotton baker boy, for sale at £22, unlined.

For those looking for the extra warmth of wool, we still have some of the navy Kelly KN1 baker boy hats, available on the website for £25. The wool hats we have are lined with cotton jersey.
