SWISHING AND SWAPPING FOR CANCER RESEARCH IN THE UK
On June 25th we held our second annual “Swish/Swap for Cancer Research".
It has been a terrific opportunity for people to thin out their closets, enjoy an evening of socialising and help raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Invited guests brought clothes, shoes, hats, jewellery, CD’s, DVD’s and books they no longer needed or wore. Throughout the evening, people swapped items, freshening up their wardrobe or finding that special treasure. At the end of the evening, over 50 bags were filled with items to be donated to the local Cancer Research UK shops.
Donations were also given on the night and £300 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support, Breast Cancer Care and Lymphoma Association.
“Community-based volunteer efforts are vital to our organisation,” remarked Joanna Patching, Area Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK. “Not only do they help us spearhead new work to treat and prevent cancer, it inspires people to become active in the fight against a disease that directly affects one in three people in this country.”
“The schedule allows for plenty of socialising,” added Ms. Ashcroft. “We want to give people an opportunity to find comfort in conversations with others who have been touched by cancer and feel good about supporting the efforts of Cancer Research UK.”
4myhead.com supports different charities through fundraising, donations and their information page pointing to support offered by charities, including the Cancer Research Cancerhelp UK website. This helpful page includes information on getting a wig and how to cope with hair loss.
Experts believe around a quarter of all cancers are linked to diet, obesity and alcohol, so it’s important for people to make sure they’re getting five daily portions of fruit and veg, living a healthy lifestyle – including getting plenty of exercise. For example, walking is free to do and one of the most enjoyable forms of exercise, particularly when walking with friends.
